Valvoline Instant Oil Change

I had an extremely disappointing and concerning experience at Valvoline in West Hartford, CT. This location uses fear-based sales tactics and aggressive upselling rather than focusing on honest, necessary vehicle maintenance. I came in expecting a routine oil change, based on many positive experiences with Valvoline in California. Instead, I was immediately pressured into a CVT fluid change, which was presented as urgent and critical without clear or objective justification. I agreed because it seemed very concerning. While my window was down during the service, I could hear employees discussing the additional services being sold. When my CVT fluid change was mentioned, multiple employees cheered. This was deeply unprofessional and made it clear that sales and commissions were being prioritized over customer trust and transparency. Afterward, I was shown the underside of my oil cap and told that a yellowish buildup indicated sludge forming in my engine and that serious damage could occur if I did not immediately agree to further services, such as an engine flush or very frequent oil changes. After doing my own research and talking with a family member who works in automotive repair, I learned that this buildup is normal in cold climates, especially for vehicles driven short distances that do not fully warm up. It is condensation, not engine sludge, and does not indicate an urgent or dangerous condition. This location misrepresented normal vehicle conditions and used alarming language to pressure me into unnecessary services. I no longer trust their recommendations and will not return. I strongly advise others to seek service elsewhere if they value honesty and transparency.
