This shop reinforced the idea that I should always do my own oil changes. All 3 employees had their hands on both the admin and vehicle service portions of my oil change which caused confusion for them on what had/hadn't been completed yet. Same for the bay next to me. So continuity issues to start. The guy that checked my dipstick after the oil change fully walked away with it in hand and showed it to the manager to ask him a question, then came and showed it to me and said "as you can see it's right there at that line it's supposed to be" and wiped excess oil so that it looked like it was full but not overfilled. It looked overfilled but it was new oil and he had walked around a bit after pulling it so I gave it the benefit of the doubt since I was going to check immediately after anyways. I checked the stick after according to the owners manual (6 times to make sure) and it was overfilled. Went back and told the manager. He told me it can't be because they put in exactly what the computer said, pulled the stick and showed me I'm right where I'm supposed to be at. I showed him the owners manual that makes it clear it's over, and got the "Yeah but it's fine. Look I've been doing this a long time" spiel. I'm traveling and doing a lot of driving. It's an almost 20 year old car I'd like to keep on the road as long as possible. Missing the mark on basic maintenance won't get me there. Seems like an issue of Valvoline protocols/SOPs and complacency/insufficient knowledge of techs. It sucks to have this be my first experience after doing all my own oil changes for so long. Doing this myself in an auto zone parking lot shouldn't feel like the better option. If you get anything done here pay attention to what they're doing, and double check their work after. If you don't want to worry about all that, take it somewhere else.
