Valvoline Instant Oil Change

Visited for a routine oil change on a high-mileage vehicle equipped with a new small-block engine. "I just need an oil change. Don't touch or mention the air filter. I know my car and I'll clean and oil it when I get home". Soon after came negating feedback to my primary reason for visiting such as, "You don't want to do this or that on a car like this..." - As if I hadn't had this vehicle for 10+yrs and have knowledge of its service history. That and a laundry list of recommended services I'm fully aware of are suggestive-selling based on the age of the vehicle. Note - the additional services offered were not prompted by any inspection results, but onscreen prompts. I understand informing a first time customer of available services, but it seemed excessive, semi-pushy and I felt uncomfortable, unheard and was prepared to drive away had the process of draining my oil had not already started. In the midst of the additional upsell attempts, the primary tech receives a call from whom I assume is the owner or MOD asking how the numbers for today are... I hear both sides of the conversation in detail. Jesus, man. The upper mgmt and/or owner's pressure to push unnecessary products and services to folks who are either unaware or oblivious have found their target market. Did the work I asked for get completed? YES. In a way that made me feel like a repeat customer? NO. The car I drive has a minimum 5k mileage between oil changes and the manufacturer even suggests 10k. What does it say on my window sticker?.... come back in 3k miles. I felt talked down to, unheard and serviced by a group of three+ individuals who wanted to clean up and 'get outta here' by closing time. The phone call from who I think is the owner sealed the deal for me though. I really wanted to support new business in town, but I'm not coming back no matter how conveniently close this is.
