1.0 out of 5.0
I went to this shop for an oil change, expecting a simple and routine service. While the employee was working on my car, he asked me to start the engine so he could reset the screen. As soon as I started the car, the “Low Oil Level” warning appeared on the dashboard. Despite the warning, the employee told me to press the gas pedal. I followed his instructions, and my car began shaking and eventually shut off completely. I immediately told him that the dashboard was showing a low oil level warning. That was when he realized that he had forgotten to put oil in the engine after draining the old oil. I was extremely disappointed and upset. I got out of the car and asked him how he could have allowed me to start the engine and repeatedly press the gas pedal when there was no oil in the engine. At first, he tried to tell the manager that the problem was because there was not enough oil in the car. However, he eventually admitted that he had forgotten to put the oil in before asking me to start the engine. The manager came over and was very understanding and professional. He did everything he could to help diagnose the problem. They checked the car for approximately two and a half hours, including disconnecting and reconnecting the battery and checking several other things. Eventually, the car started again, but it was not running or behaving the way it did before. It still does not seem right, and I am concerned that the incident may have caused damage to my vehicle. While I was still at the shop, I called my mechanic, whom I have been going to for a long time, and explained what had happened. My mechanic spoke directly with the manager over the phone. I also asked the shop to provide me with written documentation stating what happened that day, including that the employee had me start the engine and press the gas pedal several times before realizing that no oil had been put back into the engine. My mechanic was very concerned when he heard what had happened. During the phone conversation, the employee tried to argue that the problem could not have been caused by the lack of oil because I did not drive the car. My mechanic became very upset and explained that this was not a valid argument. He told them, in essence, that they had made me start the engine and press the gas pedal several times while there was no oil in the engine, and that putting the engine under load in that condition could still potentially cause damage. Simply because I did not drive the car does not mean that the engine was not at risk. At this point, I honestly do not know what kind of damage, if any, may have been done to my car. I only know that my car is not operating the way it did before I brought it in for the oil change. That is extremely concerning to me. I am very disappointed and frustrated by this experience. An oil change is a basic service, and one of the most important parts of the job is making sure the proper amount of oil is put back into the engine before the vehicle is started. Forgetting to put the oil in and then instructing me to start the car and repeatedly press the gas pedal, even while the dashboard was displaying a low oil warning, is completely unacceptable. I trusted this shop with my vehicle, and this mistake could potentially have caused serious and expensive damage. I appreciate the manager for taking the situation seriously and trying to help, but I believe this incident needs to be properly documented and investigated. I also believe my vehicle should be properly inspected by a qualified mechanic to determine whether any damage occurred as a result of what happened at the shop. I am asking that the shop take responsibility for what happened and work with me to address any problems or damage that may have resulted from this incident.
