I am writing to share a concern regarding my recent experiences at the Valvoline location on Glenway Avenue in Western Hills, Cincinnati, Ohio. I have been a Valvoline customer for years and have never experienced treatment like this at any other location, including the North Bend Road store, which I typically visit. Unfortunately, this was my second negative experience at the Glenway location, both involving the same employee, Lana. During both visits, I explained that while I can afford a basic oil change, I am currently experiencing financial hardship and cannot afford additional recommended services. After declining the add-ons, I was made to feel shamed and pressured. I was told that Valvoline would not be held liable if my car were to break down, which made me feel unsafe and uneasy—almost as if my car could be compromised simply because I said no. The tone and delivery felt disrespectful, immature, and unprofessional, especially after I clearly stated my financial limitations. Once I declined the additional services, the interaction shifted noticeably, and I no longer felt comfortable or safe as a customer. To be clear, I am not asking for disciplinary action or for anyone to lose their job. My intention is to provide constructive feedback. I believe there is a need for improved customer service training at this location, particularly around how employees communicate with customers who decline additional services. I also feel that the pressure to upsell services at this specific location is excessive and contributes to an uncomfortable and unsafe experience. As a small business owner with clientele on the west side of Cincinnati, I feel it is important to be transparent about my experiences. I will be informing my clients of this interaction, as trust and safety are values I take seriously in my own business practices. Because of this experience, I will not be returning to the Glenway location. I do not feel safe placing my car in their care, especially when Lana is working. I wanted to bring this to your attention in hopes that it can be addressed constructively and prevent other customers from feeling the same way. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
