I called ahead because I wanted my transmission, transfer case, and rear differential serviced. During that call, the representative assured me that the store carried the specific fluid required for my rear differential. However, after arriving and waiting in line, I was told that fluid was not available. By then, other customers’ vehicles had blocked me in, so I decided to proceed with just the transmission and transfer case services.
On the drive home, about a mile from my house, I heard a scraping noise underneath my vehicle. I pulled over and discovered that the undercarriage splash guard was hanging down and dragging on the road. Since I was close to home, I drove the remaining distance and jacked up the vehicle to inspect it. The splash guard had one fastener installed and appeared to have been swung aside for access during servicing and had not been properly secured afterward. Four of its five fasteners were missing, and the guard had suffered abrasions from dragging.
Being assured that the correct fluid was available, only to learn otherwise after waiting in line, was frustrating. More concerning was having my vehicle returned with an unsecured splash guard. Although it was a relatively easy fix, something visibly hanging beneath the vehicle should have been caught before I left.
